The Turlock Police Department was called out to Donnelly Park on the report of a man making rude and obscene gestures to females walking by, on Monday morning.

When police officers arrived at around 8:15 a.m., they found Anjelo Kanef, 29 of Turlock, sitting in his car next to a laptop computer with pornography on it, as well as other adult products.

Officers found other items in Kanef’s vehicle that made them suspicious. They learned that Kanef had previously been arrested several times for indecent exposure and was currently on probation for it. There was no specific crime in this instance and no victims came forward, so Kanef was arrested for possession of narcotics paraphernalia, cited and released.

Detective Tim Redd was listening to the radio traffic while working at his desk and thought it was odd that Kanef had been arrested three times for indecent exposure, convicted of it, and was not a sex registrant. Unfortunately, it was a holiday and Detective Redd wasn’t able to verify anything with the court.

At 8:00 a.m. the following morning, Detective Redd called the court and discovered Kanef was, in fact, supposed to have registered as a sex offender at the beginning of May when he was convicted. The paperwork was in the process of being input into the computer system. Detective Redd immediately worked with Patrol officers, located Kanef, and arrested him for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
