Turlock School Board Appointment Candidates, Public Interviews
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 03:42
Dr. Harinder Grewal, Eulalio Martinez, Markar Gharibian, Tami Muniz, David Folly and Joanne Waters applied for appointment to the Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) Board of Trustees.
The candidates had until January 21, 2010 to apply through the TUSD Superintendent’s office. It was reported that eight applications were pulled but only 6 were returned.
Applications for appointment will be screened by a committee comprised of three Trustees to review and select recommended applicants to interview in public at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 6:00pm.
The TUSD Board of Trustees will choose an applicant to appoint at the Special Meeting and the appointee will officially be seated the following day at the Regular Board Meeting on February 2nd.
The appointee will serve for only about two years until the next General Election as required by state law. There will be five TUSD Board of Trustees’ seats up for election in 2011.
On January 5, 2010, the TUSD Board discussed options to fill a Board position left vacant by Lori Crivelli who resigned after only one meeting as a newly elected Trustee due to possible conflict of interest.
The TUSD Board unanimously voted to use the appointment process, rather than call a special election, to fill the vacancy left by Lori Crivelli’s resignation.

01-31-2010- 4:30:34 pm MST | AnonymousTami Muniz should have got the hint Turlock doesn't want her on the board. Remember Tami, you can't say you represent the west side when you let a west side school pricipal run a scholl into the ground.

02-01-2010- 4:05:05 pm MST | AnonymousTami Muniz failed Cunnigham School by ignoring a huge problem. It's time TUSD wake up and do something about the moral at Cunnigham. It's affecting the students education.

02-01-2010- 8:35:27 pm MST | Jack - Reply to New Blood - No More LosersHow well off would we all be if this seat hadn't been vacated? I'd say not very since it's not a wise person who can't determine conflict of interest before wasting taxpayer time and money! Who knows where the votes would have landed. I'd be glad to see someone with experience in there!!

02-03-2010- 1:54:20 am MST | Anonymous - Wake Up TUSD!You would want somebody with experience who has failed to hold a school principal accountable. A person who says she represents the west side of town and west side schools although one west side school has the worst principal in the district. Your right we will never know how the votes would have landed but we do know Muniz has failed to represent the west side and a west side school. It is well known throughout the district what this principal has done to students, teachers and support staff but nobody does nothing about it and only makes excuses for his incompetence.

02-04-2010-12:17:59 am MST | Jack - Reply to Wake Up TUSD!Have you ever talked to her? Or for that matter has anyone of these people who have been wronged talked to her? Teachers and support staff know how to contact board members. Board members need specifics to be able to do something about a situation. Again, I urge you to go to the Board. If you can't do that and work towards resolving something then you need to drop it. You can't expect results for things she or any other Board member doesn't know about.

02-02-2010- 3:03:38 am MST | Anonymous - No way!Mr. LaVelle was elected 4 years ago by less than 10 votes. He was defeated in November 2009 by THREE new candidates. If he can't win a school board election what makes you think he has a chance to win for city council?

02-02-2010- 4:27:58 am MST | FrankUnfortunately Timm has become very unpopular by not listening to those who elected him originally. Now he and Tami made a "deal" so he can keep his hand in the pot through her. Unfortunate for our school district to say the least!

02-03-2010- 1:57:11 am MST | Jack - Reply to FrankThat's almost the funniest thing I've read! I don't recall Tami ever not stating her own mind on things. The district is lucky to have her back on board with her years of knowledge.

02-03-2010- 5:22:24 am MST | Anonymous - LOLWow Tami was appointed! I can't believe the TUSD didn't listen to the anonymous think tank that is the Turlock City News readers. What were they thinking? Don't they consider all of the hearsay and innuendo generated on this site by the anonymous activists? Sheesh! Oh well, I'm sure the voters will listen to what the anonymous keyboard tappers say and vote accordingly in November. LOL
