02-04-2010- 7:25:21 am MST | Fransen - State of the City AddressFormer Mayor Curt Andre used to give the State of the City Address to the city employees FIRST at a morning breakfast in City Hall. He would be there in his jeans, sweatshirt, and tennishoes and give a speech without a script, just a couple keynotes. He felt that the organization and employees in which he was about to go tell everyone else about should know their own state first. He was very much appreciated by the City employees.
I'm not too sure about after Andre, but I know that John Lazar gave a State of the City speech at a City of Turlock employees' years of service award ceremony at the Senior Center in 2007 (I think that was the year). In 2008 Mayor Lazar gave so many speeches during the Centennial Celebration that I'm not sure about which one was the "State of the City" because they all seemed to address Turlock's past, present, and future.
I think if there was ever a time Turlock needed an epic speech (backed with action), it would be right now!

02-07-2010-10:49:12 pm MST | votermayor lazar is giving a state of the city speech to the chamber of commerce this week and it cost $30 to go but only members. mayor lazar should give the speech to to everyone in public first and not his election funding special interests.

www.Modbee.com/local has a story on the Modesto Mayor making people pay the Chamber of Commerce to see him give his state of the city speech. Another example of how dirty politicians cater to special interests. Don't fall into trap of status.
Is Turlock's Mayor giving a state of the city speech? I have never heard of Turlock doing this but I think it would be good leadership especially if other cities are doing it.
