Mission Statement:

TurlockCityNews.com is a local community website containing news and information on Turlock. TurlockCityNews.com provides citizens of Turlock with information while providing businesses and organizations with a great way to reach out to the community.

The goals of TurlockCityNews.com are to inform both local residents and visitors about Turlock, to promote Turlock businesses, and to support the Turlock community.

TurlockCityNews.com is an environmentally friendly “green” media form that is accessible for everyone in Turlock, or even outside the area, 24/7 and marks the start of a new era for Turlock!

About Us:

TurlockCityNews.com is not primarily about freedom of speech, freedom of the press, sensationalism, cheesy quotes, or making money.

TurlockCityNews.com is about improved communication and allowing people to participate in their community. TurlockCityNews.com is about providing information on Turlock while promoting anything and everything Turlock.

Because a native Turlocker owns and operates TurlockCityNews.com, the website has a personal feel and as if it is a community effort. The quality personal and native Turlock ties ensure that more quality information is communicated to the general public. These relationships are also the backbone support of this media form that they know is working towards a better Turlock. Advertisers on TurlockCityNews.com may not support some specific information contained on the website but rather trying to get the most advertising exposure for the dollar. They may however support the main goals of TurlockCityNews.com which are to inform all who live in Turlock and/or visiting Turlock, promote Turlock business, promote Turlock ambitions, and support the City of Turlock.

TurlockCityNews.com also offers website services. Since people are now benefitting from the community’s only internet hub, and TurlockCityNews.com definitely has experienced the power of the internet, TurlockCityNews.com is trying to support local businesses getting on the internet by subsidizing affordable websites.

Founder David Fransen Bio:

I was born and raised in Turlock. I am a Christian of Mexican and Swedish descent. I don’t think you can be much more of a Turlock mix than that. I am honest, open-minded, and I have true intentions to help make and keep Turlock great. I don’t just say “I support” solutions for our community issues, I work to find solutions. I care about Turlock’s history, but more importantly I care about Turlock’s future.

My family roots run deep in Turlock. My grandparents, John and Katherine Martinez (Martinez Plywood), were active in Turlock’s development, and Everett and Carmen (Soderquist) Fransen settled in Turlock in the 1900s. This “old” Turlock background and my participation in the “new” Turlock make me a true representative of today’s Turlock. I am open about future change but know and won’t forget the past that made Turlock great.

I opened a skateboard shop, VICTIMS, in 1996 and closed it permanently in 2005 since I was also working for the City of Turlock and had just started TurlockCityNews.com.

I led the effort of getting a Turlock Skate Park beginning in 1997 until it opened up in 2004. The seven year project included putting on public demonstrations, fundraising events, working with city staff, and designing the park (three times).

In 2003 I began working for the City of Turlock. I was hired part-time in the Maintenance Division, tested and hired for a City Hall Finance Office position, and then went back out to Maintenance where I have been a full-time employee for about 4 years as of 2009.

In 2005, my passion of studying Turlock and interacting with the Turlock community also became my business when I started TurlockCityNews.com.

My political ambitions started a little premature when I ran for mayor of Turlock in 2006, when I was 29 years old, and then City Council in 2008.

The latest project I have been leading and got passed through the City Council is the Turlock BMX Bike Park. The construction of the bike park should begin in July 2009.

Besides the fact that my business involves me with anything and everything Turlock, I also volunteer for other local efforts:

I work with the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association to help promote our Historic Turlock Downtown. I am also on the Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation Commission. I was a member of the Turlock Centennial Committee in the year 2008. I hosted a radio talk show, Turlock City Radio, that was broadcasted for about a year on CSU Stanislaus’ KCSS 91.9 FM.

History:

TurlockCityNews.com Founder David Fransen (aka DJ Fransen, Fransen, Fransen of Turlock, Mr. Turlock, Turlock’s Son, and many other names of which some may be inappropriate for some readers) was never really an internet person until he started using Ebay. Even during this time, search engines and their million result returns from all over the world were overwhelming and found to be not useful in narrow local interests.

The once local daily newspaper has never really been locally owned and went from being a daily publication to a twice-weekly publication in 2004. At this time, Turlock began falling victim to a communication gap. Previously successful events, such as the Turlock Music Festival, started to fail in promotion despite an increased Turlock population.

This is when the idea came to make a Turlock internet hub in the form of a news site. The information in newspapers was not making its way into homes and around the city as easily as the information on the internet was. Despite sifting through all the internet content, the internet was proving to be more convenient (and affordable) than other media forms.

While Fransen was not able to find the internet as convenient as others did, he still acknowledged that’s where people were and where everyone will be in the future. Businesses and organizations would depend on the internet as its main source of information distribution.

The website name, TurlockCityNews.com, was registered on February 28, 2005 immediately after David Fransen came to the conclusion that Turlock needed a daily updated news website.

TurlockCityNews.com began stumbling through possible website concepts, formats, and styles. The first TurlockCityNews.com website design was very basic with, what used to be the big feature of, a message board. Next the website got a graphic overhaul while adding multimedia features like videos. The second version of the website incorporated a signature feature, rotating banners advertising businesses and events. The third version of the website ended up becoming an unsuccessful attempt at incorporating a content management system while becoming fully multimedia capable.

The TurlockCityNews.com that people benefit from now comes under the development of website designer Jimmy Lesondak. Ongoing revisions, updates, and developments will continue as it is a goal to provide what the community wants and needs from a media form.
