The Turlock Little League American East 12 Year Old All-Stars team advanced to the Section 6 Championship Game after stand out pitcher Marcus Lopez pitched a perfect game on Wednesday night.
Coach Phil Salazar said “He was on fire” as he referred to Marcus Lopez’s perfect game including 17 strikeouts of the 18 consecutive outs.
The Turlock All-Star team beat Pacific of Stockton 2-0. Once Pacific’s pitcher settled down, after Anthony Moreno’s 2 run homer in the first, Turlock only got 4 singles. The 5:00pm game lasted less than an hour, ending around 6:00pm.
Offensive highlights included Anthony Moreno going 2-4 with a two run homerun, Marcus Lopez hitting 3-4, and David Lazar going 2-4.
The Section 6 Championship Game is scheduled for Thursday at 5:00pm in Linden between Pacific and Turlock.
Coach Salazar said that he’s going with the big lefty, Cristian Ceja, as his starting pitcher. Turlock’s facing Pacific’s ace and so Salazar said “We gotta hit the ball.”
“It’s been a phenomenal ride” said Phil Salazar as he referred to the last month worth of tournament games. Salazar took the All-Star team to win the Section 6 Championship game last year. The Turlock All-Star team got 3rd place in the next round of Division 2 play last year.
Dominic Jack hit a grand slam in the first inning, Marcus Lopez and Cody Cornell both went 2-4 with two-run blasts.
Cody Cornell, Cristian Ceja, and Daniel Romeo pitched in the shut out.
