Word on the street was one of our local skaters from the good ol’ VICTIMS skate shop days had been selected as a “Top 10” in the online skateboard video contest put on by SLAP Skateboard Magazine.
After hearing about this, we caught up with Adam Wersky at the House of Java and got the scoop on the contest.
Everyone in Turlock that skateboards has probably at least heard of Adam Wersky, seen him at the Turlock or Ceres skate parks, or seen him in videos like Go To Sleep, and is already talking about his achievement of making it in the top 10 of the sixth annual One In A Million contest.
For all of us that really do know Adam from the old VICTIMS skate shop days, we already know he belongs in the top 10, have said “congrats!” and are now going to promote him like crazy whether he likes it or not.
The general public must know that Adam Wersky is (and has been) one of the best skaters in the area but doesn’t really self-promote. Lucky for Adam, we don’t have a problem with promoting a Turlocker and that is what it is going to take to win this contest.
SLAP’s One In A Million contest asked for skaters to submit a one minute skate video for a chance to be picked as the “top 10” out of thousands of submissions.
When talking with Adam, he said that his two friends (Chuy Madrigal of Modesto and Schuyler Ricketts of Ceres) asked him to edit their tapes so they could send them into this contest. Adam was encouraged to make one for himself and so he did.
All three Turlock area skaters sent their footage in just before the contest’s submission deadline. And all three skaters were announced on SLAP’s website as making the Top 10 on September 18th.
The five skaters who receive the most online votes at SLAP’s website will be sent to San Francisco where they will skate S.F. and the greater Bay Area with guest pro skaters, guest judges, SLAP photographers and filmers, and a tour guide.
SLAP’s website says “There will be challenges to meet on and off board, which in conjunction with plain old ripping at the spots and overall vibe of the person will help determine the winner.”
The winner of the over-all contest will receive a full SLAP interview, an honorary one-time pro model from Zero, and a spot on the flow team of all the sponsors of the contest for a full year.
Voting has started and will continue until October 2nd.
Anyone can vote, no registration or obligation is necessary, and people can only vote once per computer IP address.
