Director Short had been a member of the TID Board of Directors since 1977 when he was appointed to fill a position left vacant by the death of a previous TID Director who had a heart attack while visiting Don Pedro. Short was elected later that same year in November and has been on the TID Board of Directors for the last 32 years.
Mr. Short served as the President of the Board of Directorsand past President of the Association of California Water Agencies.from 1993 to 1995.
Director Short was the District’s elected representative to the Don Pedro Board of Control governing recreation operations at Lake Don Pedro. Director Short represented Division 1.
The TID Board of Directors have not met since the loss of their colleague but it has been past practice, and the most likely option, to appoint someone to fill the now vacant Division 1 TID Director seat until the next scheduled election in 2011.
An almond and walnut grower in Hughson, Phillip Short was a member of the California Walnut Commission, served on the Fedral Walnut Control Board, was Chairman of the export committee of the California Walnut Marketing Board and was past Chair of the Walnut Marketing Board Research Committe.
Short had also served on the Hughson Elementary School Board for ten years.
Phillip Short attended the University of California at Berkeley and served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve. He is survived by his wife and five children. Memorial arrangements are pending.
