John Kregness, 81, of Turlock, passed away at Doctors’ Medical Center in Modesto on December 28th. He was born in Roundup, MT and moved to California as a young child. He attended schools in Modesto and Turlock. He graduated from Turlock High School in 1946. John served in the National Guard for eight years. In October of 1951 he married Beverly Dickey. Together they moved to Pasadena, CA where he began his work as a Building Inspector. Later he served as City of Turlock Building Inspector for 20 years. An accomplished builder, John acquired a contractor’s license and later went on to the Housing Authority of the County of Merced where he served as a Project Manager.
John also loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the Out-of-Bounders RV Club and the Turlock Moose Lodge. He was a fun-loving family man and will be sorely missed by all of them.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly Kregness, a son John “Kreg” (Cristy) Kregness of Turlock, and two daughters: Karen (Rick) Bailey of Salida and Tammy (Jack) Keener of Turlock, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A private Celebration of Life is being held.
