The City of Turlock will hold the second of a series of community workshops for the Turlock General Plan Update to discuss the preliminary land use alternatives. The meeting is intended to provide the public with the opportunity to have a dialogue regarding land use changes for infill sites as well as future expansion areas for the City of Turlock to accommodate 2030 growth projections. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to discuss proposed locations for new development; new parks, roads, and community facilities; improvements to the existing older areas of the City; or other City development issues.
The General Plan is the guiding document that establishes how the City of Turlock will grow and change over the next 20 years. The City is currently beginning the process of reviewing potential growth alternatives for the General Plan Update. Based on the preliminary projections of future population growth, the City is beginning to outline growth plans to accommodate up to 15,000 additional housing units in the City of Turlock by 2030. Between 3,500 and 5,000 units could be accommodated within the existing City Limits, depending upon whether additional changes in existing General Plan designations are made through the General Plan Update process. Therefore, the City is looking at potential changes to current land use designations within the City of Turlock as well as growth areas outside the City.
The City’s consultant is currently working on a preliminary report outlining the conceptual alternatives that are being considered as part of the General Plan update. The report, called the “Future Turlock Growth: Concept Alternatives” will available online during the week of January 21st at: http://www.gpupdate.turlock.ca.us. Other documents of interest are also available on this website.
The workshop will be held at the Turlock Senior Center located at 1191 Cahill Avenue, Turlock, starting at 6:30pm (until around 8:30pm) on January 28, 2010.
The City of Turlock looks forward to seeing you there!
