Multicultural Event: Taste of Turlock
Turlock Downtown will be bringing Food, Culture, Friends, and Fun to the Historic Downtown district on Saturday, May 1st, from 11:00am to 5:00 pm.

Downtown will host its annual one-day event, Taste of Turlock, to highlight the variety of cuisine in Turlock.

Taste of Turlock will have a multicultural theme this year (and most likely every year after).

There will be a lot to experience and savor during this walking tour of the downtown. Enjoy cultural music & dance performances, children’s activities, art, exhibits, and the best food, appetizers, wine & beverages from your favorite restaurants.

This event will be free and open to the public while tickets for food & drink tasting wrist bands will be pre-sold and sold at the event.

Multicultural festivities are being organized by a growing committee of Turlock citizens and organizations including Director Trina Walley (Turlock Downtown), Chair DJ Fransen (TurlockCityNews.com), Rob Geiger (Turlock Historical Society), Claudia Gonzalez (Sigma Omega, Epsilon Chapter at CSU Stanislaus), Pauline Telya (CSU Stanislaus Student Affairs), Mary Sherwood (Assyrian American Civic Club), Jessica Leglu (Upsilon Kappa Delta multicultural sorority), Kristen Santos, Nellie Lazar, Anthony Martinez, Michelle Adams, Steven Nascimento, Angela Moreno, Krystal Villapudua, and Taylor Nylund.

The committee met for the first time on January 25, 2010 to discuss plans for the event including blocking off Downtown’s Main Street that will host several distinct blocks of cultures, all presenting their food, entertainment, art, exhibits, and activities.

Cultural groups interested thus far have been identified as American, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Asian, Scandinavian, Portuguese, Indian, African American, Historic Turlock, Agriculture, and Counter Culture (aka the college/modern block). The event will also include some Swiss, Irish, Greek, and Italian participation.

If any other cultural groups would like to participate, please contact any of the committee members or the listed contacts. Volunteers for many different aspects of the event are needed.

Limited Sponsorship, Vendor, Entertainment, Participant, and Activity opportunities will are available.
