Turlock BMX Bike Park Riders After Finishing Last Volunteer Work DayA grand opening ceremony for the Turlock BMX Bike Park will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010.

The event will kick off at 10am and Mayor Lazar will be dedicating the Turlock BMX Bike Park and unveiling the donor plaque.

The City of Turlock sent out a notice to donors stating that the City of Turlock’s BMX Bike Park is a wonderful addition to the recreational opportunities available in our community. The letter stated that the City recognized the project would not have been made possible without the donors support and is sincerely grateful.

The City of Turlock held a soft opening for the Turlock BMX Bike Park on December 19, 2009 but received some complaints that it was prematurely opened as the jumps were not finished being formed, the design from the community committee leading the project was not followed, and that these along with other issues made it unsafe.

The overall general public review of their BMX bike park was that it’s good that Turlock has one, it’s fun, but that it should’ve been better and could still be improved.

A meeting between Matt Nascimento, DJ Fransen, Turlock Municipal Director Dan Madden, and Turlock Public Facilities Maintenance Supervisor Ray Garcia concluded with a decision to move forward by having approximately three volunteer work days on Sundays beginning on March 14th.

On March 28, 2010 the last volunteer work day was held and volunteers, supporters, and most importantly, the riders were proud of the project that began with an idea from Dominic Rufo in February 2007. Dominic was 14 years old when he first asked for help on getting a bike park in Turlock.
