At a press conference, California State University Stanislaus Foundation President Matt Swanson today announced that the sold-out 50th Anniversary Gala has already raised more than $200,000 for university programs and students.
“The Foundation is proud to announce that we have raised more money with this fundraiser than any previous event. Our goal has always been to raise money for academic and university programs. I am proud to say that this event has surpassed all of our expectations.
“Not only did the event sell-out almost immediately, but we had to expand seating as well. The demand for and popularity of this event means more funding for school programs, academic enrichment and student scholarships,” said Swanson.
More than 370 guests will attend the gala festivities. In fact, 63 percent of attendees to the event are new donors to the university and more than 15 percent are recaptured donors – people who have previously donated to the university, but have not given in the last three years.
Swanson announced the record-breaking fundraising amounts to CSU Stanislaus President Hamid Shirvani just prior to the gala event, which features keynote speaker former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
“With so much bad budget news coming out of Sacramento, it is great to see our local community supporting our university,” Shirvani said. “In this economy, when every dollar counts, the Foundation’s gala and its success will help support our academic community for years to come. I want to extend a personal thank you to the Foundation and donors for coming together to support our students.”
Funds raised by the sold-out 50th Anniversary Gala will be used to support university programming. Yearly, the university identifies financial needs for the foundation to consider for funding. Laboratory facilities expansions, endowed chairs and scholarships have been funded in previous fiscal years.
CSUS President Shirvani said that one-third of the approximate $200,000 net profit will go toward scholarships.
“Our Foundation’s number one goal is to help raise much-needed funds for university programs and advancement. This year, we are excited to exceed that goal and set a new fundraising record. But at the end of the day, it is the university and its students who will benefit the most. We are proud to help support students and the university,” Swanson concluded.
The sold-out 50th Anniversary Gala began at 6:30pm this evening at the CSU Stanislaus campus.
