The $3.6 million dollar Joe Debely Stadium renovation, funded by $2.8 million of City of Turlock Redevelopment Agency money, began just before last year’s school session was over and is now being completed just in time for this year’s beginning of school.
Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) Deputy Superintendent Ed Felt did note that the manufactured restrooms were the only part of the renovation project that did not get installed in time because the company transferred owners with some complications. In addition to the old restrooms, there will be ADA compliant portable restrooms until an expected ETA of October for the new ADA compliant restroom facilities.
On Tuesday, football teams practiced on the new artificial turf for the first time.
The synthetic track and artificial turf have successfully been installed and will be memorialized by a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 26, 2010. Gates open at 6pm with the actual ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 6:30pm. TUSD Superintendent Sonny Da Marto and TUSD Board President Frank Lima will lead the ceremony with speeches.
Deputy Superintendent Ed Felt said that those attending will be able to purchase an All-American hot dog dinner that includes a hot dog, chips, and a soda for $1 from the Turlock High and Pitman High Booster Clubs.
The public is invited to this free event and it should be reported that the new entrance to Joe Debely Stadium is on Marshall, just off the corner of Colorado.
The first football game to be played on the new Joe Debely artificial turf field will be Pitman hosting Modesto on Friday, August 27th.
