Canal Drive is completely open going across the city now after a construction project funded by just over $2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act monies that closed large portions of the road since July 26, 2010.
Phase I part of the project closed Canal Drive from Main Street to Daubenberger Road from July 26th to August 16th. Phase II closed Canal Drive from Main Street to Geer Road from August 16th until September 21st.
The construction project on Canal Drive, from Geer Road to Daubenberger Road, is nearing completion as the road is completely paved and open to traffic.
“There is still more work to be done, however all of the operations will not hinder traffic movements other than lane shifts to allow the contractor to work in single lanes,” said Nathan Bray who is the City of Turlock Associate Civil Engineer who is in charge of the project. “The contractor still needs to finish striping the road, cleaning up all construction related debris and ‘punch list’ items. “
Bray stated that contractor Teichert Construction finished (substantial completion) ahead of schedule.
On April 27, 2010, the Turlock City Council approved a bid and agreement with Teichert Construction, Inc. of Turlock for the “Canal Drive Reconstruction and Resurfacing” project.
