Turlock Shines is a volunteer project with the goal of re-establishing small town community pride.
Last year about 250 volunteers worked on a project Councilwoman Mary Jackson helped organized to help clean up our city, Turlock Shines.
Timm LaVelle and Dana Vaughn organized the 1st Turlock Shines event in 2008 when about 200 volunteers helped clean up garbage around Turlock and sanded/resealed the Donnelly Play Park.
Turlock Scavenger was part of the effort last year and reported that there were over 25 loads of trash dumped by volunteers.
Last year Mary Jackson and Dana Vaughn helped organized the event and are both involved in heading up the 3rd Annual Turlock Shines event again. The event is focusing on helping seniors out with projects they may not be able to do, while also cleaning up around the city, refinishing the Donnelly Play Park, and cleaning the Broadway and Columbia Park Water Features.
New to this year’s Turlock Shines cleanup day is Habitat for Humanity’s involvement in conjunction with their Habitat World Day.
Jackson said that they are organizing a citywide cleanup on October 2nd and are looking to include teams of volunteers from throughout the city.
Teams of 4-10 volunteers can still sign up!
People will be able to meet up at Donnelly Park at 8:00 to have a light breakfast, get their assigned projects, and take off from there.
