Education and Qualifications:
My name is Jeremy Rocha and I am declaring my intentions to run for a seat on the Turlock City Council. I am 22 years old and lived in Turlock all my life. I currently attend California State University Stanislaus and will be receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in June 2010. It would be an honor to serve the people of our city. I want this position because I want to make a difference and because I honestly feel that I can. What better way to do that than by contributing to the future of a community and being a part of an institution that at its core was founded with the intent that it be created in the image of those from which power is justly derived, the people. Elected officials at all levels of government must remember who gives them their power. Also, they must respect the principles set out in our nation’s founding document, the Constitution.
As a leader, I will take to heart the oath of office and work to provide leadership that is in accordance with government being by, of, and for the people. This involves having strength, integrity, responsibility and the willingness to make difficult decisions. I have all of these and look forward to proving my capabilities over the months ahead leading to the November 2nd election. Having spent the time necessary to earn a degree, I have learned how government functions as well as the various aspects of how it affects our everyday lives. It is with this knowledge and the principles and beliefs that I hold that I confidently state that I have comprised in me the requirements for being an effective leader. It is because of these reasons that I assure every Turlock citizen that I am capable of doing this job. I want to work with the other members and respectfully assert my opinion on issues that our city is currently facing and will face in the future. I will always be accountable and keep in mind that I am working for the citizens of Turlock. Contributing to the future of Turlock would be an honor and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to make a difference. More information can be found on my website, www.rocha2010.com.
