The Salvation Army Turlock Corps is hosting the 14th Annual Kettle Kickoff Luncheon on November 16, 2010.
This year’s Turlock Salvation Army Kettle Kickoff is saluting our people in uniform by honoring our local veterans with the theme, "Salute to our Veterans.”
The Guest Speaker this year will be Jim Sanders, WWII Veteran local author of "Saving Lives, Saving Memories.”
Sanders, a farm boy from our Central Valley will share his story of his Army service during WWII. At age 19, Jim Sanders was assigned to an ambulance platoon and began following Patton’s Third Army across France and Germany and into Czechoslovakia. Sanders transported wounded soldiers between front-line aid stations and evac hospitals and witnessed the liberation of two Nazi concentration camps.
Sanders will be bringing along the military ambulance he restored a few years ago. A few other army vehicles are planned to be on display also. The NJROTC from Turlock High School will be doing the duties of Honor Guard and the Turlock Salvation Army is working with the local American Legion and VFW to put on a good show. Turlock Mayor John Lazar will once again by the MC.
