The Lights on Parade, Turlock’s annual downtown Christmas parade, lit up downtown Turlock and drew thousands of people to the Main Street corridor. Estimated attendance has not been reported but there appeared to be more people than last year’s approximate 18,000 people.
Every since the Turlock Christmas Parade moved from the long time traditional Saturday mornings, thousands more people have come out for the Friday night Lights on Parade.
The Turlock Downtown Holiday Faire also brought people out early to shop the downtown businesses, enjoy street vendors, hear live music, take pictures with Santa, and go for a carriage ride.
While the holiday faire brought people out early, so did spot saving. This trend is increasing as the attendance is increasing. Early into the day, people began to set up chairs, rope off areas, put blankets down, and post signage reserving places to sit along Main Street.
Parade spectators continued to thickly line Main Street and saw more groups on Broadway Avenue where the parade turns to finish at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds compared to previous years.
While some were worried of potential rain associated with a storm, it stayed dry until a few rain drops came down right after the parade had ended. The temperature stayed at around 50 degrees.
After the parade lasting just over one and a half hours, people were still gathered downtown enjoying plenty of coffee, hot chocolate, food, and fun until around 9:00pm.
