The 4th Annual Henry’s March will take place on the campus of California State University, Stanislaus on Sunday, March 6, 2011.
Henry’s March was started by Rachel and TJ Johnson to benefit the Children’s Craniofacial Association (CCA) as their son, Henry, has Apert Syndrome and has received support from the organization.
Henry Johnson is 8 years old and a 2nd grader who lives in Turlock. Due to having Apert Syndrome, he must travel with his family to Dallas, Texas for his surgical care. CCA is a non-profit organization that helps families like Henry’s by providing emotional and financial help to kids with craniofacial surgery and care.
“Our event is really growing, and so is Henry,” said Henry’s mother, Rachel Johnson. “He is a 2nd grader this year and had a very eventful summer.”
Henry has a whole new look this year because he had major reconstructive surgery on his face. The procedure is called the "LeFort III" in the medical community. Parent’s and laymen call it, "mid-face advancement" and Henry called it, "the purple thing". He wore the device for seven long weeks and had to have the surgery done in Dallas. Thanks to Children’s Craniofacial Association (www.ccakids.com), all of the Johnson’s hotel stay, flights and daily meals were covered.
“What a blessing, especially in a time of great stress,” exclaimed Rachel Johnson.
“With that major surgery behind us, we are back in the swing of things,” said Rachel. “Henry is enjoying 2nd grade and I am busily planning our biggest and best Henry’s March ever!”
Last year the event had over 2,000 attendees. In three years Henry’s March has raised over $70,000 for CCA. In 2011 the Johnson’s plan on breaking their attendance record and raise $30,000, which would bring their four year total to $100,000.
“We know we can do it with the continued support of Turlock and our surrounding communities,” said Rachel.
The Henry’s March event consists of fun and competitive races, vendors, music, face painting, breakfast and silent auction. It’s an event for the whole community and for a great cause, one directly tied to a Turlock boy.
Come on out and enjoy music, refreshments, vendor booths, awards and goody bags; All for an amazing cause. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Craniofacial Association (www.ccakids.com). Their pledge is to empower and give hope to individuals with facial differences and their families.
