The City of Turlock is inviting people to participate in a BMX Bike Park volunteer work day on March 5, 2011, one of two required throughout the year by City Council resolution.
Back in November 2010, Interim Parks Manager Allison Van Guilder reported that one significant act of vandalism had taken place at the Bike Park when vandals turned on an irrigation valve and the water flooded the park causing extensive damage. The incident caused the park to be closed for several days.
City Maintenance Workers rebuilt the jumps by piling the dirt back on them, and in the process destroyed some of the specifically crafted shapes. Some of the bigger jumps had gaps in them that were also filled in.
On Saturday, March 5th, from 8am to 12pm, City Staff will work with volunteers to form and re-shape the mounds at the BMX Bike Park located at the Walnut/Christoffersen Storm Basin.
All volunteers will be required to sign a waiver, release and assumption of risk form to participate. Forms will be available at the BMX Park on the day of the event. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate. All volunteers under the age of 18 must provide a signed waiver by their parent/legal guardian.
