Distinguished Young Women of Turlock Win Titles and Scholarships

Madison Patino: South's Distinguished Young Woman of Turlock 2012 - Photo by Jon Michael TerryThe Distinguished Young Women of Turlock Scholarship program was held on March 12, 2011, at the Turlock Community Theatre where Madison Patino won the title of South’s Distinguished Young Woman of Turlock 2012 and Ashley Gomez won the title of North’s Distinguished Young Woman of Turlock 2012.

 
Madison Patino won a total of $1,600 in scholarships as she also won awards in the Fitness, Talent, and Self-Expression categories. Ashley Gomez won a total of $1,400 in scholarships after winning awards in the Scholastic and Self-Expression categories.
 
Madison and Ashley now advance to the state competition, Distinguished Young Women of California. The California state winner then competes in the national competition, America’s Junior Miss, in Mobile, Alabama.
 
In the event that Madison or Ashley is not able to fulfill any of her duties as Turlock’s Distinguished Young Woman throughout the year, runner-ups will step up to take their place.
 
Danielle King was awarded $950 in scholarships while winning in the Fitness category and being given the title of First Runner-Up.
 
Brina Patel won $700 in scholarships as she received an award in the Interview category and was given the title of Second Runner-Up.

Briana Vazquez, Brooke Duyst, Lori Ludlow, Jessica Gonzales, Nicole Cipponeri, Brina Patel, Hannah Salafia, Esther Elia, Rosalind Kingsley Hurst, Lizete Duarte, Nella Varni, Arloa Tinley, Lauren Fernandes, Cassandra Huber,  Madison Patino,  Karly Barker, Emily Humphreys, Danielle King, Jillian Selee, Ashley Gomez, Sharokeena Atanus,  Jenna Fontes, Taylor Olson, and Megan Holm.
 
Scholarships were awarded based on collective total scores from judges comprised of various areas including what the judges saw during the evening program, previous interviews conducted earlier in the day, transcripts of the participants’ scholastic achievements, as well as votes the participants took among each other for who they thought should win certain awards.
 
There were 3 awards in each category and 4 awards in the Scholastic category, while also awarding a first ever “Special Recognition” scholarship. Here are the results:
