A Special Joint Meeting of the Turlock City Council and Planning Commission will take place on March 29, 2011, at 6pm, to discuss possibly changing the General Plan Update growth directions as approved on August 23, 2010, when Council directed staff to continue planning land use for the Southeast Master Plan and Northwest Master Plan areas.

The Turlock Planning Commission and members of the public who have attended growth workshops and spoke in public overwhelming have expressed desires not to grow northwest, building residential units on the west side of the freeway.

The majority of the Turlock City Council continued to include the northwest area of Turlock as a planned option for residential growth.

At a Special Joint Meeting of the Turlock City Council and Planning Commission on March 1, 2011, a majority of Council Members and Planning Commissioners seemed to agree that only looking at the southeast and infill properties for residential development was the way to go.

The cost to change the General Plan Update direction was unknown at the meeting and the Council and Planning Commission did not discuss the issue any further as it was not agendized.

The cost to change the General Plan Update study has now been identified to be about $40,000.

At the March 29, 2011 Special Meeting, Turlock Council and Planning Commission members will discuss a potential change in the “Preferred Land Use Plan” as well as the range of alternatives to be evaluated in the Turlock General Plan Update Environmental Impact Report.

The public is encouraged to attend this meeting. Public comment will be taken on these issues before the Council and Commission take their respective actions.

If you have any questions or would like to submit comments, please feel free to contact the Turlock Planning Division at (209) 668-5640.
