Turlockers may know the former long-time Turlocker, Dave Shabaz, as a former humorous writer for the Turlock Journal. Some may remember him as a wannabe humorous writer the local newspaper used to get people riled enough to buy their papers just to see what he’d written… either way, Dave Shabaz has moved to San Diego and he is getting work as an actor.
Dave wanted to be a stand-up comedian back in the mid-80’s but he never fully pursued his dream. Dave liked to be known for saying things that others felt like saying but wouldn’t. Whether that was good or bad, he used his comedy in writing a book, “A Slice of Life, Humorous Stories by Dave Shabaz. He is currently writing his second comedy book so be sure to sign up to his author mailing list to keep updated.
After moving to San Diego in 2009, Dave began to feel the regrets of not giving the entertainment industry a 100% try, so he quit his job and decided to pursue his dream and became an actor.
“I don’t have a nice body or a great face but I figured that there must be roles out there for ‘character actors’ and boy was I right,” said Dave. “I’ve done about 20 projects, student films, feature films, music videos, TV commercials, etc.”
Dave’s most immediate announcement of acting accomplishments is his appearances in some Snickers television commercials to air on Friday, June 10, 2011, on the Spike channel.
Dave acted in three different Snickers commercial promos that have been posted online, and will air during the Spike Guys Choice Awards.
Besides the upcoming Snickers commercial work, Dave has been on CSI NY. He plays a store clerk right behind Gary Sinise and gets about nine face shots.
“It was such a learning experience watching Gary Sinise work,” commented Dave on the acting job. “It took 45 minutes to shoot the 3 minute scene.”
Dave Shabaz visits Turlock, still stays in touch with Turlockers on facebook, and appreciates all the support he’s been getting. He’s asking everyone from Turlock to tune in and show some support.
The Spike Guys Choice Awards comes on at 9pm PDT for those watching in Turlock.
