Stay for four on the 4th! That’s how the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association (TDPOA) and American Legion Rex Ish Post 88 are promoting four days of activities during America’s Independence Day celebration. Festivities include a Friday night cruise, Saturday parade & car show, Sunday picnic in the park & car show, and Monday night fireworks.
On July 1st, Turlock Downtown will kick off the holiday weekend with the Main Street Summer Park-In, presented by the Turlock Convention & Visitors Bureau and Wellington’s Pub & Restaurant. Classic chassis’, cool cars, and street rods fill the parking lot at 10 E. Main Street on Friday Night. This is a great way to kick off the holiday weekend and preview some of the finest vehicles in the valley; Fords, Chevys, Pontiacs, Plymouths, and more. Parking and registration start at 5 p.m. with entertainment from 6pm to 8:pm. (THE MAIN STREET CRUISE HAS BEEN CANCELLED).
On July 2nd, Turlock Downtown and the American Legion will proudly present the Turlock Independence Celebration along Main Street.
Turlock Downtown and the American Legion have worked to include as many participants as possible to help make this year’s 5th Annual Independence Celebration a fun community event where everyone is there!
The event will include an open Independence Celebration Car Show, Patriotic Parade, and an old fashion street faire atmosphere that is sure to fill the streets with thousands of people as it has the last four years.
Sponsors include Turlock Journal, Century 21 M&M and Associates, American Legion Rex Ish Post 88, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Allen Mortuary, TurlockCityNews.com, Graffiti Classics, Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association, Rex Klein Insurance, Reed Realty, and Mocse Credit Union. The Turlock American Legion Rex Ish Post 88 donated the American flags people will see lining Turlock Downtown on July 2nd and at future events downtown.
Saturday morning an opening ceremony will take place at 9:30am where military service people and dignitaries including Mayor John Lazar will speak and show tribute to America’s Independence Celebration. The Patriotic Parade will begin at 10am, and the Independence Celebration Car Show will be ongoing from 11am to 4pm.
The Patriotic Parade will include around 85 entries and run through Historic Downtown on Saturday morning, expecting to draw thousands to the Main Street corridor. The Patriotic Parade will begin at E. Main Street and Palm Street, continue to W. Main Street and Broadway Avenue, and then turn off to end at Broadway Park.
The Independence Celebration Car Show will line East and West Main Street as it did last year with around 100 registered cars. Many different vehicles will be on display until 4pm once the parade is over.
A street faire will also be ongoing throughout the day that will include food and street vendors along with activities for all ages and a children’s area. The children’s bounce house, water play area will be located on the 100 block of W. Main Street. About 30 street vendors will be set up between all the cars lining Main Street. Types of vendors include crafts, retail, business, non-profits, and food.
The Main Stage hosting the opening ceremony will also host the Hot Rods band from 11:30am – 3:00pm on the 400 block of E. Main Street.
Sunday, July 3rd, will see a continued car show and picnic at Donnelly Park from 11am – 2pm. People will be able to enjoy a barbeque, family fun, and friends.
Car show registrants may register for one event or all three car events.

On July 4th, the Stars & Stripes 4th of July Celebration, “Red, White, & Boom!” will include fireworks at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
Gates for parking open at 4:30pm and gates for entry open at 5:00pm. Entry and parking are free.
Come and bring the family, there will be activities for the kids as well as entertainment for the whole family.
There will be a Bike Rodeo presented by the Turlock Police Department, City Recreation will have an area for the kids, and live music by Ernie Bucio.
Bring your blankets, or lawn chairs, baskets of food, soft drinks and water. Come with the family and enjoy a great evening of fun. There will be beer and food available for purchase as well. No alcohol will be permitted to be brought inside the gates.
The Fireworks will start at Dusk.
