On Tuesday, August 2nd, neighborhoods throughout Turlock are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “28th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Turlock Police Department, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 36 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
In 2010, the City of Turlock won an award from the National Association of Town Watch for an exceptional second year of participation in the program. Turlock residents sponsored 21 block parties and received visits from Turlock Police officers, Turlock Fire staff, City Officials, McGruff the Crime Dog, CSUS Police, Cold Stone Creamery and several other guests.
On August 2, 2011, from 6pm to 9pm, residents in neighborhoods throughout Turlock are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and police. Neighbors are encouraged to host special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials, or neighborhood gatherings. Turlock Police and Turlock Fire officials will be visiting each area that registers their party with the Turlock Police Department.
If you are interested in participating in National Night Out 2011, please contact the Crime Prevention Officer at (209) 656-3153.
