The candidates for the November 8, 2011, Consolidated District Election are official. The extended candidate filing deadline for the Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) was extended from August 12th to August 17th because at least one incumbent did not file. The Turlock Irrigation District (TID) candidate filing ended on August 12th as both incumbents filed.
TID and TUSD will see challenged election races for Board seats on the November 8th ballot.
TID Board Incumbent Rob Santos was not challenged for his Division 4 seat and will therefore not appear on the ballot.
TID Board Incumbent Michael Frantz (Farmer/Businessman), of Hickman, will face challenger Christopher Barth (Businessman/Farmer), of Turlock, for the Division 1 Director seat.
Frantz was appointed to the TID Board of Directors on November 17, 2009, after TID Director Phillip Short passed away on September 25, 2009. When Frantz was chosen for appointment in 2009, eleven people vied for the TID Director position.
Those elected to the TID Board of Directors currently receive $1,000 per month salary and are eligible to receive the same health benefits as full time employees for the duration of their elected term.
TUSD had 5 Board seats up for election this year, 4 full term (four-year) seats and 1 short term (two-year) seat.
The candidate filing for the short term (two- year) seat and was closed on August 12th as Tami Harrill-Muniz, who was previously appointed to the TUSD Board, filed as an incumbent. Tami Muniz was unopposed for this seat and will therefore not appear on the ballot.
Tami Muniz was appointed to the TUSD Board on February 2, 2010, as a Provisional Board Appointment to fill the vacancy left by Lori Crivelli’s resignation shortly after being elected in November 2009. The Provisional Board Appointment runs through November 2011, when the regular election process will take place.
6 candidates will vie for 4 full term seats while 2 incumbents did not file for reelection. Loren Holt announced that he would not run again and John Sims did not end up filing as well.
Eileen Hamilton (Incumbent), Frank M. Lima (Incumbent), Andrew Johnson (Fund Development Specialist), Miguel A. Galvez (Real Estate Agent), and Harinder Grewal (Senior Inspector), and Grady L. Welch (Parole Agent) will appear on the ballot for the 4 four-year seats.
This will be the last year an at-large election will be held for TUSD Trustee positions. Beginning in 2013 Trustee positions will be elected by their specific districts mapped out throughout the TUSD.
TUSD Board Members currently do not receive any form of compensation for serving on the Board and they do not receive health benefits.
