This morning around midnight, Turlock Police determined through investigative leads that attempted homicide suspect Manuel Maldonado Jr., 19 of Turlock, was hiding in a residence in the 500 block of Vermont Avenue in Turlock.
Maldonado was wanted for Attempted Homicide stemming from a shooting that occurred on October 22, 2011, at the 600 block of Chestnut Street. Two gunshot victims, a male adult and a male minor, were located and transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Turlock Police Detectives learned that the incident began as a verbal argument but were not sure if it was gang related.
Turlock Police Department Critical Response Team consisting of Hostage Negotiators and SWAT deployed. Maldonado was believed to be hiding in the garage. Maldonado was considered armed and dangerous. Hostage Negotiators demanded Maldonado surrender. Maldonado refused to surrender and the residence occupants were evacuated as were adjacent residence.
At approximately 5:35am, after several hours of attempting to get Maldonado to surrender, SWAT deployed gas and Maldonado surrendered. He was booked at Stanislaus County Jail for Attempted Homicide.
