On Friday, March 2nd, at approximately 7:30pm, an armed robber pointed a gun at the face of Dale Falkenberg, owner of Dale’s Guitar.
“Nobody has ever tried to rob us before,” says owner Dale Falkenberg. “We will be in business 5 years in June.” Dale’s Guitar & Music Lessons is located at 210 E. Olive Avenue, in Turlock.
“We called the cops, the second he left, and made a report,” explains Falkenberg. “They were swarming the store, (and) were there 1 minute after we called.”
Falkenberg stated on his Facebook page that he had two young costumers in the store, when the unidentified robber came in yelling for everyone to get on the floor.
“The customers dove,” says Falkenberg, “I told him no!”
“He yelled ‘get on the ground’ a couple more times, shaking the gun at me,” describes Falkenberg. Falkenberg also described the gun, which the robber was holding, as looking like a .45 automatic.
“I told him no! I’m not getting on the ground,” tells Falkenberg. “So he started yelling ‘Give me the money in the register’…I told him ‘No, there’s nothing here for you.”
The robber then aggressively insisted that Falkenberg hand over his wallet, to which Falkenberg replied “There’s only 2 bucks in it. And you’re not getting it.”
The unsatisfied robber then asked where Falkenberg kept the safe. Falkenberg explained that there was no safe, and that the cash register only had 24 dollars in it. “I said, ‘You’re robbing a store with no money!’” states Falkenberg. “I told him there’s nothing here for you and you’re not getting anything from the customers…get out!”
With the robber not leaving, Falkenberg decided to try to negotiate with him. “I said, ‘You must be in a really bad spot needing money…” he states. “But there’s no money for you here.” Falkenberg then told the robber that if he left now, they would forget it ever happened and the authorities would not be called. The robber then apologized and ran out of the building.
“Talking him out of robbing us worked the best for this situation,” explains Falkenberg. Falkenberg also explained that he did not resort to any form of violence with the robber due to the young customers that were in the shop.
The authorities were notified, and Falkenberg has confirmed that everyone in the shop was left unharmed.
The unidentified armed robber is still unknown, but Turlock Police report that the suspect is Hispanic and was wearing a scarf over his face. Falkenberg adds that the suspect is around 5’9 in height, around 190 lbs, and was wearing a black jacket hoody, black pants and black shoes on the night of the incident.
