In celebration of the literary arts and just in time for National Poetry Month (April), the Modern Languages Program at California State University, Stanislaus (CSUS) in conjunction with the Turlock City Arts Commission invites individuals to submit a typed poem limited to one page for their Second Annual Poetry Contest: Ode to Turlock.
There are four categories for submission including: I) 19 years and over; II) 18-15; III) 14-13; and IV) 12 and under.
In categories I and II, $100 book awards will be given to first place winners and $50 book awards in categories III and IV; second, third, fourth and fifth place winners in each category will be awarded gift cards.
Poetry may be written in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. Additionally, the top five winners in each category will be invited to read their poetry on Friday, April 27th from 6pm – 8pm at the CSUS Faculty Development Center, Room 118. The poetry reading is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. All entries will be read by qualified jurors.
Submissions are due on Friday, April 6th.
The organizers of the contest remind contestants to be creative with their Ode to Turlock and that Poets.org defines “Ode.”
The second annual Poetry Contest, Ode to Turlock, is supported by a grant from the Office of Service Learning at CSUS.
