Turlock residents and visitors alike got to sample various tasty treats at the 7th annual Taste of Turlock event on May 12th at downtown Turlock, hosted by the Turlock Downtown Properties Owners Association (TDPOA).
The event featured 27 vendors all together, including informational booths, various sponsors, special cookware items, and 15 local restaurant/food vendors.
The Turlock Carnegie Arts Center was also at the event, offering art projects to children throughout the day, which included still life paintings of food and face painting.
Many informational vendors also offered treats to event attendees to keep within the overarching theme of “food.”
While last year’s event was also called the Turlock Heritage Festival, the event this year returned its focus to solely food and food sampling.
TDPOA Assistant Coordinator Dana McGarry reported that while the event morphed into the Turlock Heritage Festival over the last two years, it was originally the Taste of Turlock festival, hence the decision to return the focus to the food and cut out the Turlock Heritage Festival aspect.
“The feedback that we’ve gotten is positive regarding the emphasis on food,” stated McGarry.
With approximately 650 individuals attending the Taste of Turlock event this year, over 4100 tickets were sold. In previous years, attendees were given a wristband for samples, however, this year individual tickets were sold to reimburse for food samples. Tickets cost $1, with samples costing either 1 or 2 tickets each.
The TDPOA is still working on going over results and feedback from this year’s event, which will help them decide if next year’s event should keep the emphasis on solely food, or if the Turlock Heritage Festival aspect should be brought back into play.
“If anybody is interested in volunteering or being a vendor, or even feedback, just give us a call,” stated TDPOA Promotions Chair Antonia Toomey. “We’re trying to be as open as possible.”
