Sunday night at approximately 6pm, the Turlock Police Department responded to a family disturbance in the 2500 block of Annhurst Avenue for an incident that eventually required the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad to respond.
Upon arrival of Turlock Police, suspect Carlos Villegas was detained for questioning. A search of his person revealed a concealed homemade stabbing weapon, for which he was arrested.
Turlock Police report that while searching other property in his possession, officers found a loaded sawed-off shotgun and a homemade explosive device.
The device was placed in the street and residents were either evacuated or told to remain inside. The street was blocked off from Tuolumne to Minnesota for approximately two hours, from 7pm to 9pm.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded and rendered the device harmless.
Villegas was arrested and booked for felony possession of a dirk/dagger, felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun, and felony possession of a destructive device.
