Although many community members feel the City of Turlock does not focus enough time and money on roadway repairs, the City is currently undergoing multiple roadwork projects on both Main Street and Golden State Boulevard.
While one project on Main Street is currently in the construction process, there has been a slight delay due to a gas line conflict.
“We are working with PG&E to get the line relocated,” stated Development Services Director Mike Pitcock.
Pitcock said that he hopes the work will be finished shortly but that the project seems to be running into a lot of underground facilities and that more delays could occur.
The repairs that are to be made on Golden State Boulevard, reaching from Crane to the overpass, should be commencing in construction relatively soon, along with repairs on Main Street from Walnut to Tegner, as the contractor is currently working on demo and concrete work.
“They are hoping to start paving operations in about two weeks,” stated Pitcock. “I would anticipate that you will see work going on in these areas for another 6-8 weeks.”
Pitcock also stated that once paving operations are complete, there will still be a lot of work to be completed, as they will need to raise all the iron, cut new signal loops, as well as restripe the roads.
“Trying to coordinate all those subcontractors can take a lot of time,” informed Pitcock.
The City will be blocking out, not paving, the “F” Street intersection when the paving of Golden State is complete, as there is to be a signal project for that intersection.
“We do not want to cut through the fresh asphalt to install conduit and loops,” stated Pitcock. The City will then pave the blocked out portion of Golden State with the “F” Street signal project.
The Golden State Boulevard and Main Street paving projects will cost approximately $985,000, which is being funded through a Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) Federal Grant and 2103 (Highway Users Tax Account) funds.
