The filing period for the November 6th General Municipal Election began on July 16th at 8am and will continue to be open to hopeful candidates until August 10th at 5pm. Should an incumbent of the City Council fail to file, the final filing date will be extended to August 15th at 5pm for any non-incumbent.
As of Thursday at about 12pm, confirmed candidates who have started the filing process include Turlock Councilwoman Mary Jackson, Turlock resident Sergio Alvarado, and Turlock Parks and Recreation Commissioner Steven Nascimento.
Sergio Alvarado and Steven Nascimento have frequently attended Council Meetings, General Plan Update forums, and announced their intention to run for a Turlock City Council seat over four months ago. Councilwoman Mary Jackson announced her bid for reelection about three weeks ago.
Turlock Councilwoman Amy Bublak, whose term also expires this year, has stated that she is currently working on an announcement to release soon after she has completed it.
Another Turlock resident has expressed interest to TurlockCityNews.com regarding running for Turlock City Council and will confirm the campaign soon.
Interested candidates are encouraged to make an appointment with City Clerk Kellie Weaver, as there is a large amount of information to be provided and explained. The City Clerk also must verify that the candidate is a registered voter in the City of Turlock and issue Nomination Papers during this visit.
Nomination Papers are a necessary component of the filing process and must include at least 20, but no more than 30 signatures, a Declaration of Candidacy and Oath, Ballot Designation Form, Candidate’s Statement if desired, payment of fees if candidate wishes to file a statement, Statement of Responsibility for Political Signs, and Fair Political Practices Commission Form 700.
"There are additional campaign forms that may be required depending on the individual candidate campaign status and other optional forms such as the Oath of Fair Campaign Practices that may be filed as well," explained City Clerk Kellie Weaver.
