This year’s National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, August 7th. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

In this event, Police & Fire members, along with Turlock City Officials and McGruff the Crime Dog will be making trips out to registered participants’ parties to help create a partnership between local businesses, public safety and community members.

Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff reported that during last year’s event, Turlock Police & Fire and City Officials made approximately 17 visits, and this year plans to surpass that amount. Backeroff also reported an already scheduled event for this year’s National Night Out that is to be held at Columbia Park.

To celebrate and participate with National Night Out, neighborhoods are encouraged to hold events such as Block Parties, Cookouts/Barbecues, and ice cream socials. Visits will be made to the registered events from 6pm to 9pm.

If your neighborhood didn’t register to participate in National Night Out, the Turlock Recreation Division is hosting a free National Night Out party at Columbia Park from 6pm to 9pm on August 7th.

For more information, call Crime Prevention Officer Michelle Backeroff at (209) 656-3153.
