“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is a musical thriller that is set in 19th century England. The musical tells the story of Sweeney Todd, who after returning to London, vows to take revenge on the whole world after the death of his wife. He does this by teaming up with a local piemaker, and opens a barbershop in which he murders his customers and has them baked into pies. The musical, which was written in 1979, was also turned into a Tim Burton film featuring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in 2007. The TYPA will be performing the ‘School Edition’ of the musical, and carries a ‘PG’ rating.
“This show is our biggest endeavor yet,” stated the Turlock Youth Performing Arts Facebook page. Tickets are available at the Carnegie Arts Center, located at 250 North Broadway in Turlock, or by calling TYPA. Tickets will also be available at the door of the performance.
Turlock Youth Performing Arts was formed nearly seven years ago by a dedicated group of parents looking for a musical theatre program in the Turlock community that had quality instruction and pleasing performances. TYPA now offers five different musical programs for children of all ages.
