The Stanislaus County Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R), a subcommittee of Farm Bureau, will be discussing the potential Modesto Irrigation District (MID) water sale to San Francisco at their Fall General Meeting on September 18th.

Despite the busy harvest time for many farmers, the meeting featuring keynote speaker Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh, is an important one and YF&R is asking for their members and the public to participate in the important discussion.

Modesto Mayor Marsh will begin his opening remarks at 6:30pm and provide an overview of the subject.

Guest speakers for and against the water sale will discuss the affects of a potential water sale to San Francisco.

At 7pm, John Duarte, Jake Wenger, and other invited guests will participate in a round table styled discussion of the potential water sale while allowing a Q&A period for those in the audience.

Previous to the discussion, a social time with appetizers and drinks will also be held from 6pm – 6:30pm. For those wishing to attend the social time, there is a $10 suggested fee to cover food and drinks that will be served.

The Stanislaus County YF&R Fall General Meeting will take place on September 18, 2012, at 6pm, at Fuzio’s, located at 1020 10th St. #100, in Modesto. Parking is available at the K St. + 11 St. parking garage. Fuzio’s validates free parking for 2 hours. If you have questions about the event please contact Ashley Bush at 515.422.4976 or acbush@dow.com.

Young Farmers and Ranchers is a subcommittee of Farm Bureau for people between the ages of 18 and 35 and are involved in banking, business, production and many other areas of the agricultural industry. Young Farmers and Ranchers develop leadership skills while volunteering time as active, vital members of the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau. As a member of YF&R you will network with people throughout the state involved in agriculture and your voice will join others in speaking out for agriculture. As you develop your skills and knowledge, your efforts will help Farm Bureau to effectively represent all farmers and ranchers.

If you are interested in joining YF&R, email stanislausco.yfandr@gmail.com. For more information on the Stanislaus YF&R, visit their website at www.stanfarmbureau.com/YF&R/About-YF&R.htm.
