Cycling Team Launches in Turlock to Give Back to the Community and Promote the Sport

Bell Real Estate Cycling Team Member Sergio Iniguez During Cyclocross Robert and Shelly Bell have launched a new amateur cycling team in Turlock with Bell Real Estate Services as the primary sponsor of the team. The newly formed team will compete in road and cyclocross races throughout Northern California during the 2012-2013 season. Personal goals of the members include health, fitness, and camaraderie through training and competition.

“After Racing for the past 3 years and sponsoring other teams, it just made sense to do something local that would help promote and represent Turlock,” stated Robert Bell. “Our business already had a connection with the sport so we wanted to take that to the next level.”

The team has already filled all 15 inaugural spots for the team with members who have had previous years of experience in cycling races. The team’s website, which will introduce each member of the team, will be launched in November.

“We have some great talent here in the valley, and we are excited to announce who is on the team in November,” stated Bell. “I think people will be surprised at the level of dedication there is locally for the sport.”

The locally based sports team was established to educate and promote the sport of cycling and to give back to their community while racing and training in Northern California.

The Turlock Convention & Visitors Bureau became the first supporter of the cycling team that will join many community efforts in representing the Turlock region. Many other sponsors, all local businesses, have also been announced on the team facebook page.

The cycling team looks to give back to the community by raising money for their charity, the Turlock Sunrise Rotary.

“We chose Turlock Sunrise Rotary as our charity for two reasons: One we wanted to give back to our community, and two, we are not set up to decide who is in need more than someone else,” explained Bell. “Everyone is deserving but Rotary already works with all the local groups and has a handle on where the money needs to go.”

With the possibility of the Amgen Tour of California coming to Turlock in 2013, Bell Real Estate Cycling will be a good resource for the city to plan for the event.

“As far as the possibility of Amgen coming to town, what a feather in the city’s cap that would be. It is not everyday you get to have a pro sporting event in your back yard. It brings revenue, recognition, and prestige to our area and we hope it comes through,” stated Bell. “I am part of the committee to raise the money for the event and the team will be working on educating the public on how the race works. Our fingers are crossed.”

The team has a facebook page; however the community may meet team members personally at their first public showing during the Festival of Lights, the Turlock community’s tree lighting ceremony and street festival in Downtown Turlock on November 23, 2012. Stop by the team’s booth where they will be offering team posters, water bottles, and Christmas cookies in support of the Turlock Sunrise Rotary.

“We are looking forward to bringing home some wins, and raising the community’s knowledge about the sport,” stated Bell. “The group we have racing for us is very impressive.”

Bell Cycling would like to thank all sponsors associated with the team thus far: Rabobank, Cycle Masters of Turlock, Frost, Inspire Photography of CA, CrossFit Turlock, Woods Furniture, Turlock Auto Plaza, and Tower Physical Therapy.
