Well over 50 people turned out Wednesday to celebrate the opening of U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham’s new, Modesto office.
The office opening, intended as an open house to familiarize constituents with the new office and available services, was commemorated by a Modesto Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting.
“We really love this guy (Denham) and what he does for us,” said Doug Johnson, vice-chair of events and special projects with the Modesto Chamber of Commerce.
It’s Denham’s focus on agricultural, water rights, and transportation issues that make him such an ally to the region, Johnson said.
Denham thanked attendees for their support, saying that the new office was designed to best meet the needs of his constituents.
“In picking a new office we wanted to make sure that we were central to the entire district,” Denham, whose district includes Stanislaus County and parts of San Joaquin County, said.
The new office has had a new commercial office design and is also easily accessible via major roadways, located just off Highway 99 near Salida.
“You’re welcome to visit us at any time,” Denham said. “… We’re here to serve you.”
Denham and his office staff assist constituents with myriad issues, relating to every federal office. From immigration issues to medicare benefits, unpaid back taxes, passport holdups, student loans, veterans’ issues, and federal housing, Denham and his staff can help navigate often confusing bureaucracies. Denham can also nominate students to military service academies, provide flags flown over the U.S. Capitol, obtain federal letters of acknowledgment, help apply for grants, and offer internship opportunities.
And Denham’s office can also help plan trips to Washington D.C., securing tickets and reservations for exclusive tours to the Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and more. Congressional tours can take visitors behind the velvet ropes, seeing areas normally off-limits to visitors.
In the past two years, Denham’s office has helped address almost 600 constituent concerns.
The open house ultimate mainly served as a meet-and-greet, with local elected officials, veterans, and concerned citizens alike in attendance. But Denham listened intently to constituent’s concerns and advise for two hours, pledging to do his best in Washington, D.C.
“Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom,” Denham said. “We’re here to listen.”
Denham’s new office is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is located at 4701 Sisk Rd., Ste. 202, Modesto, 95356.The office may also be reached via phone at 579-5459, or online at denham.house.gov.
