The familiar blue, gold, and gray look of TurlockCityNews.com will be on hiatus this week, as Turlock's only locally-owned and operated news source pays tribute to a hometown hero.
In honor of Turlock's own Colin Kaepernick, who will play in the Super Bowl this Sunday, TurlockCityNews.com has gone red and gold.
The short-term redesign features a gold header with red stripes, evoking the San Francisco 49ers' helmet design. An image of Kaepernick, the 49ers QB who played his high school ball at Pitman High School, flanks the main layout on the right-hand side.
And on the left, the 49ers' “Quest for Six” flag – referencing the team's quest for a sixth Super Bowl title – sits atop the text “#7 Hometown Hero,” in honor of Kaepernick's number.
The Kaepernick-inspired theme was crafted by the team at Pressert Marketing.
Pressert Marketing has recently earned attention across the internet for a graphic (http://www.turlockcitynews.com/media/k2/items/cache/e44a6f32e15cb53ee479b2697e759e2e_XL.jpg) composed for a TurlockCityNews.com article on Kaepernick earlier this week. That graphic went viral on Kaepernick's Facebook fan page, earning more than 6,000 likes, 1,300 shares, and 100 comments (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=456090614445186&set=a.456090601111854.104355.145821335472117&type=1&theater).
