Local poker enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to test their skills against World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour champion, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, at Turlock Poker Room.
Mizrachi has been named the Official Poker Ambassador of Turlock Poker Room (TPR), and will play in an eight-event poker series at TPR.
“We are very proud to have a player of The Grinder’s caliber represent the Turlock Poker Room as our official poker ambassador,” said Turlock Poker Room co-owner Philip Rheinschild. “This partnership shows our players, the Central California poker community and the industry as a whole, how serious we are about making the Turlock Poker Room the best in the area. We couldn’t be happier.”
Mizrachi is considered one of the greatest poker players of all time with lifetime winnings over $13 million and more than 20 career titles, most recently taking 1st Place at a World Series of Poker circuit event February 10th in South Africa. At that event Mizrachi wore a TPR logo patch on his chest, representing TPR on a global level.
Mizrachi’s Official Poker Ambassadorship has already attracted both local and out-of-area poker players to TPR according to Poker Room representatives, setting the stage for a successful and prosperous partnership in 2013.
“I’m excited to start my ambassadorship at the Turlock Poker Room. The room is beautiful, the staff is second-to-none, and they really know what it takes to run a first-class operation,” said Mizrachi. “Together, Turlock and I are going to have an outstanding and memorable 2013.”
Not only was Mizrachi impressed with the Turlock Poker Room as an establishment, but also the patrons of the business.
“The players have been really nice and they’ve been nice to me outside the poker table and even when I’m playing with them, some of us even talked about our preferred poker practice tool. One of the players said that sites not on gamstop.co.uk is the direction he often takes,” he said.
Mizrachi has enjoyed the Turlock community as well, frequenting Red Brick with his entourage during a visit in January.
The Series kicked off on Jan. 19.. Mizrachi finished third at that first event, competing against a large, energetic field of locals. The Turlock Poker Room anticipates the partnership with Mizrachi will continue to attract even more people from out of the area and be a benefit to the city overall.
The next event in the Grinder Poker Series, a no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em tournament, will be held at 11 a.m. on March 2 at Turlock Poker Room. The tournament is the second of eight scheduled Grinder Poker Series events to be held throughout the year where players can win not only cash prizes but earn points for their participation. The top 16 point-holders at the culmination of the Grinder Poker Series will play in the Grinder Showdown, a heads-up, bracket-style tournament where players can face-off with The Grinder one-on-one and have a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of $15,000.
The buy-in for the Grinder Poker Series tournament in March is $215, with an additional $25 entry fee for 13,000 chips. Each round is 30 minutes long, and re-entry is allowed for the first four rounds. An additional $10 will also give each player an additional 2,000 in chips.
Mizrachi, whose own kids call him “Grinder,” will return to Turlock again on May 24th – 26th with the DeepStacks Poker Tour for the 3rd Annual Central California Summer Poker Classic. This special event features a guaranteed prize pool of $40,000, is a featured tournament in the Grinder Poker Series and is an official stop on the DeepStacks Poker Tour. In addition to a cash prize and bragging rights, the top finisher in the 3rd Annual Central California Summer Poker Classic will be awarded a $3,000 package to the 2013 DeepStacks Poker Tour World Championship in November at Mohegan Sun-Connecticut ($2,500 Buy-in and $500 spending cash) and complimentary entry to any tournament hosted by Turlock Poker Room between June 1st, 2013 and May 31st, 2014.
