The cover star of this year's “Madden NFL 25” video game won't be from Turlock.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback and Pitman High School graduate Colin Kaepernick was eliminated from cover spot contention on Wednesday, falling to Houston Texans running back Arian Foster in the tournament's Sweet 16.
Foster, a No. 4 seed, earned 53 percent of the vote to upset Kap, a No. 1 seed, and advance to face Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in the Elite Eight. The race was the closest of eight contests in the round of 16.
This year's “Madden” cover tournament sees fans pick the cover star through an online bracket-based vote, resembling the NCAA “March Madness” basketball tournament.
Though Kaepernick has been eliminated from contention, two all-time San Francisco 49ers greats remain on the “Old School” side of the bracket – Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice. Montana faces Barry Sanders to reach the Final Four, while Rice squares off with Deion Sanders.
