Illa “Jane” Smith
Nov. 1943 ~ Apr. 2013

Jane was born in Holdenville, OK in 1943. The family moved out west where they lived in several towns until coming to Turlock in 1956, where her father would run a local vacuum cleaner shop. Jane graduated from Turlock High School in 1961 where she was active as a cheerleader, student body secretary and the 1961 Football Queen. After graduation she moved to Fresno to attend business college. In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart and remained in Fresno until 1969. They moved to San Jose where they would spend the next 30 years. Jane was co-owner and involved in Jaynes Hallmark Shop for over 20 years. Upon retirement they moved to their Copperopolis Lake Tulloch vacation home until moving back to Turlock in 2011. Jane’s true love was her family.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years Jay Smith; children Kim (Kevin) Barrett of San Jose, Rod (Jerri) Smith of Modesto and Jeff Smith of Las Vegas; siblings Keith (Kim) Stanley of Arizona and Kathy Backus of Turlock and five grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.

Memorial service will be held at Allen Mortuary on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 2:00p.m. Please share your memories at www.allenmortuary.com.
