Looks like a book of matches before they had lighters. I would guess this place was an old Turlock dive bar. A place like our current Staley’s maybe?

It was owned by Manuel Sousa. Bob Kearney was a bartender there. This is where Jura from Jura’s Pizza started. He stole their recipe and opened up his own pizza parlor.

This was my Great-uncle’s place…Manuel Souza. Too many family moments and memories to share at Manjo’s…but its great to still taste the Manjo’s flavors at today’s Juras Pizza:)

Brings back many memories. Had three friends work there and used to occasionally stop by for a large plate of fries or a pizza when walking home from my job at the Royal Coach Car Wash while I was in high school. To young to hang in the bar and to poor to afford the steakhouse.

My dad was the Joe in Manjo,s Manuel Souza and Joe Gruber started the first pizza parlor in Turlock. I was in the 6th grade and remember it well.
It was on Golden State in an old dry cleaning building. There a bank there now

There was a time when Manuel Souza decided to run the restaurant like a San Francisco style steakhouse. The steaks were in a glass coldcase right when you walked in the door. You could pick out the steak you wanted. Best steak dinner you could get in town at the time. When son Dan took over it became a pretty rowdy bar with all kinds of “stuff” going on.
