Sourie N. Isaac
January 1, 1935 – September 24, 2013
Sourie Isaac, died as she lived, with dignity. She would always end her nightly prayers by asking God, that when it is her time to go, that she be taken quickly. Her greatest concern was that she not be a burden to her family by being bedridden. On September 24th God answered her prayers as she passed quickly surrounded by family and loved ones.
Sourie Isaac was born in Tel Tamar, Syria, a small Assyrian farming village along the Khabar (Euphrates River). She married her lifelong soul mate Italyos Amo and together they raised eight children. She is survived by her sons: Hana Amo of Syria; Nabil Amo living in Arizona; Johnny Amo living in Modesto; and her daughters, Marin Amo, Jacklyn Amo, Yonia David, and Sharlet David, all of Modesto. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Italyos Amo and their son Simon Amo, both of Syria. She also leaves a legacy of love and gratefulness of the numerous grandchildren that shall dearly miss her.
Hers was a simpler life of an era gone by. She would stone grind her family’s flour from the wheat harvest from their family farm. She would bake her bread the old fashioned way in a “tanura,” (underground oven). She milked cows, gathered eggs and tended her vegetable garden. She was a lifelong member of her Assyrian Church of the East. She practiced her faith daily through the love and devotion she showed to others. It was through her gracious heart that her love for her Heavenly Father was made most visible. God grant her peace and a welcomed place in His heart. May God give strength and perseverance to her family and friends, that we may continue to love and remember her, through our own good works. Amen.
