Yet another longstanding tenant of the shopping center at the corner of Golden State Boulevard and Geer Road has fled for greener pastures.
Turlock's Sears Hometown Store has moved, and now occupies the space at the Turlock Cinema Center formerly held by Funworks.
The relocated store is located at 2353 W. Main St., Turlock. It is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The store continues to sell a mix of appliances, home electronics, lawn and garden goods, and tools.
Sears representatives did not return numerous calls seeking comment about the move.
The shopping center at the corner of Golden State Boulevard and Geer Road has now lost several of its anchor stores. A Miller's Outpost and a Fallas clothing store both recently closed. The O'Reilly Auto Parts will soon move to an under-construction store at the corner of Geer Road and Wayside Drive. Big 5 Sporting Goods, a Goodwill, a 99-cent Only Store, a Rite-Aid and an Aaron's remain as the center's major anchors.
On the flip side, the Turlock Cinema Center, formerly home to many empty storefronts, is now nearing 100 percent occupancy. A few minor vacancies remain, and the former Dairy Queen building remains unused. Lamppost Pizza, next to Turlock Poker Room, recently went out of business but its vacated space was quickly filled by a Rico’s Pizza.
