This month’s Turlock Unified School District’s Character Counts Students of the Month are Cunningham Elementary School sixth-grade students Mary Claire Toth and Karla Zuniga.

Cunningham Principal Rich Perez says that Karla is an overall outstanding student who enjoys math, writing and watching soccer with her dad. She loves hanging out with friends, and Christmas is her favorite holiday.

Karla says Tom Kinnier is her favorite teacher because he is caring, always has a positive attitude and challenges his students to do their best. Karla is interested in two career choices – either to be the President of the United States or a school teacher.

Mary is a GATE student at Cunningham and she enjoys reading fiction, writing, math and science. One day she plans to travel to England. Perez says that Mary loves people, and refers to all of her classmates as her best friends.

Mary’s most inspirational teacher is GATE Teacher John Vallerga, because she says he makes learning so much fun.

Mary would like to be either an author or a scientist when she grows up. Her advice to others is to have fun, and to make every year better than before.
