The Turlock Fire Department and Local #2434 named Capt. Frank Saldivar as “Firefighter of the Year” awarded Tony Nascimento with the “Customer Service Award” during the Fire Department’s Annual All Personnel Breakfast last week.

Both courageous men were honored by the awards. For Saldivar, a 22-year member of the TFD, this is his second time earning Firefighter of the Year honors. He also earned the award in the late 1990s.

“I’m really honored to be given this. It means a lot coming from my peers,” he said.

Nascimento, who has served with TFD for two-and-a-half years, says he was shocked to learn of his award.

“I look up to the other firefighters, and I’ve learned from the culture in the department that we go above and beyond throughout the year and we treat people like they are someone in our own family,” he said.

He explained that firefighters will often show compassion by doing small acts of kindness like giving small children stuffed animals – even if they are only witnesses to an incident and aren’t directly involved in a fire or emergency incident.

I’m perplexed as to why D.J. Fransen would post this when the firefighter’s brother, City Councilmber Steven Nascimento, took his friend Dr. Santos’ dog park and gave it to Matt Swanson for a lesser donation?

Also, is it a conflict of interest for the Nascimento brothers because one gave the other a raise and obviously helps win his brother awards like this?

When are the police in this city going to be paid accordingly? Special treatment to firefighters needs to stop.

    Fransen is bipolar

    Everyone is Bipolar

  4. Seriously? says:

I don’t think DJ cares about anything after he stirs the pot. Does that guy even have a job or does he just live off of Rob Santos’s money taking pictures all over town? He is certainly a loose cannon and not good for Turlock.

  5. Mayor says:

I heard David Fransen and Ted Howze met to discuss running for Mayor and City Council. Press releases are scheduled for February 14th 2014.

or . . . Perhaps like his brother, Tony Nacimento is extremely bright and doing a great job as a fire fighter. Police are paid just fine. The Turlock police officers’ and their egos (often ridiculously large) may not like the perceived special treatment received by the fire fighter but the fire fighters are such superior recruits there really is no comparison.
