James Oliver, Sr.

James W. Oliver, Sr. of Tuolumne, passed peacefully with his family by his side on December 27, 2013. James was born to the late Clyde and Dorothy Oliver in Modesto, California. He grew up in Hilmar and after graduating from Hilmar High School he attended Modesto Junior College, obtaining an Associate in Arts degree.
He married Bobbie Oliver, formally of Turlock, in 1967 and moved to San Jose to work for Hewlett-Packard Company. He then made plans with his father to open Sierra Building Supply in Soulsbyville, CA. He ran the business until it closed in 2000. In his retirement James enjoyed hosting family events, playing with his grandchildren and exploring the topics of gravity and magnetism.
James is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Oliver; his children and spouses: James W. & Shelli Oliver, Jr., Jason & Trisha Oliver, and Shannon & Andrew Freitas; his grandchildren: Amanda, Tyler, Rylee, & LeAnna Oliver, Mason Carlen, Esten, Jack and Catherine Freitas; his sisters Jayne & Wayne Van Gaalen and Sharon Oliver Boswell; three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde & Dorothy Oliver in 1988, father-in-law Esten Covey in 2003, and his niece Lisa Van Gaalen Peacock in 2013.
A graveside service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. on
January 7, 2014.
