Wesley Wallström, 84 of Turlock, passed away on January 6, 2014 at Turlock Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Wesley was born to a Swedish immigrant family on October 4, 1929, in Turlock, CA.
After attending local schools and graduating from Turlock High School in 1947, Wallström started a banking career lasting over 35 years – mostly with First Interstate Bank. His career included serving as Bank Manager, Regional Vice President, and Bank President. He is a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School, University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
Wallström has served in various capacities: founding President of the Turlock Regional Arts, Council; President of Turlock 12:10 Lions Club; founding Director and Chairman of Covenant Village Retirement Center; President and Director of Turlock Golf & Country Club; Commodore of Pacific InterClub Yacht Assoc.; and longtime member of Rotary Club of Turlock, Masonic Lodge, and Turlock Covenant Church.
Wallström began his sailing career at the age of 10 — following a long line of Swedish seafarers of over 300 years. He has been Commodore of the Stanislaus Sailing Club; member of Lake Yosemite Yacht Club, Merced; and Stockton Sailing Club , serving 6 years has chairman of the membership committee. Wallström has served 4 years as a director of Pacific InterClub Yacht Assoc.
Wallström’s sailing has taken him to the Baltic Sea, English Channel, Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean, and much of the Pacific Ocean.
Wesley is survived by his wife Marilyn and daughter Wendy, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son Marc, parents Emil and Edith, brothers Bob and Elwood, and sister Carole.
A graveside will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 1:00pm with a memorial to follow at 2:00pm at Allen Mortuary.
