Turlock Ice Skating Rink More Popular Than Expected, Last Weekend to Skate

Turlock's Fields of Ice skating rink has surpassed owners' expectations, doing an impressive and unexpected amount of business this Winter.

“It’s a fun place and people are enjoying it here,” said Ron Macedo, the owner of Fields of Ice. “It’s been a hit and we’re very fortunate. We’re very grateful that the City of Turlock and all the surrounding community [within a 50 mile radius] come out to see the rink.”

Since its Nov. 29 opening, the skating rink has seen a steady stream of customers. Some of those visitors have been turned away recently, with sessions reaching sell-out capacity leaving no room for new skaters.

The unprecedented popularity led to the skating rink being open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to meet demand.

The rink will be open through Jan. 20, thanks to its monumental success and the fact that many have booked parties throughout the month. There have been several holidays that Macedo wanted to have the rink open for – much like it was for Christmas.

“It’s been very well-received,” said Macedo. “We’ve been very fortunate the weather’s really cooperated. We’ve had some really great days.”

Turlock even saw its first ice rink proposal in December. The event went viral, exciting many Turlockers—including Macedo.

“I think it was very nice – very romantic,” said Macedo. “You can tell he put a lot of thought into it. It was very nice.”

He then laughingly said that it was their first proposal, but certainly wouldn’t be their last.

Fields of Ice entry is $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Prices increase $2 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Skating sessions begin every two hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Cocoa and coffee are sold for $2, along with various snacks. Fields of Ice is located at 716 N. Daubenberger Dr.

“If you like to skate,” Macedo finished grandly, “come out and skate.”
